Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE) (University of Delhi)
The Common Aptitude Test for English, introduced by the Dept. of English, University of Delhi in 2009, is a centralized test meant to evaluate a student’s aptitude for the study of BA (Hons.) in French / German / Spanish / Italian, offered by the University.
CATE is designed to test a candidate’s aptitude for BA (Hons) English, as a course of study. It aims at evaluating English language, grammar and writing skills as well as general literary awareness.
The Dept. of English DU, conducts an entrance test every year. The University conducts this entrance test for the admission of students to its undergraduate level programme. The entrance test is conducted at 12 affiliated colleges of the university.
The university has not prescribed any particular syllabus for DU CATE.
However, students are recommended to study Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (10 +2) syllabus for the English subject thoroughly. The main focus of the candidates while preparing for this entrance test, should be on practicing question based on English literature and grammar.
The exam paper will consist of two parts :
- Part 1: Multiple choice questions
- Part 2: descriptive-answer type questions
Both the sections will be attempted in one sitting.
