NSDC’s Initiative to empower more women with skill Mandated to impart skills to 150 million Indians by
200%- the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) said the number of women trainees in its training centers have shot up from 4% to about 31% in a four-year period beginning 2011. “This record growth in the number of women coming forward to acquire a skill is indeed impressive and encouraging. But, we need to aim higher and work to wards a day when we will have more skilled women in the country,” Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy said at an event honoring skilled women and entrepreneurs on International Women’s Day. Today, there are 18 women heading various vocational training businesses (NSDC partners) and sector skills councils, performing a commendable job. The top five states that attracted the most number of women trainees were West Bengal, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
