German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited India in the first week of October 2015. During her visit to India Germany pledged over one billion Euros to India’s clean energy push and the two countries struck a deal to fasttrack investments from the European power-house on the second day (October 5, 2015) of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit on October 5, 2015.

18 Agreements:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Merkel signed a raft of agreements 18 in total, agreeing to enhance ties in key areas, including defence, intelligence, railways, trade and combating terrorism.

Merkel, Modi Reaffirm Need for UNSC Reform:

India and Germany on October 5 reaffirmed their commitment to pursue reforms of the United Nations (UN), especially the Untied Nations Security Council, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in New Delhi on October 5.

Modi, in his press statement, said both leaders, who had previously met at a G4 summit in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in September, are “committed to purse reforms of Untied Nations, especially the Security Council”.

He also thanked Germany for its assistance of over Euros 1 billion each for India’s Green Energy Corridor and for solar projects.

He said sees Germany as a ‘natural partner in achieving India’s economic transformation’ and that Germany’s strengths and India’s priorities are aligned.
