WEDDING PLANNER

The job of a wedding planner is all about creating mega memories and letting the imagination run riot

WHAT YOU DO

The job entails planning the ceremonies, preparing budgets, selecting the venue and the trousseau. A good planner will work out a theme and design the event, the menu, the invitations and the décor around it.

YOUR TIME TABLE

10 am: Reach office
10.30-11.30 am: Brainstorm themes and ideas during lean season and vent preparations during wedding season
12 noon: Meet clients
3 pm: Coordinate with different team members
5 pm: Visit wedding venue to check décor and meet clients
7 pm: go to the venue and stay till the event takes place

YOUR PAY CHEQUE

A wedding planning team comprises designers, wedding coordinators, operations managers, etc. A coordinator can earn Rs 7,500 pm at the entry level, Rs. 12,00 per month by the first year, and between Rs. 30,000 Rs 50,000 per month at the end of the third year. An operations manager can earn Rs 10,000 per month initially and Rs 1 lakh per month later.

YOUR SKILLS

 A flair for organising events, an eye for colour and fashion
 Good communication skills, great negotiating skills, knowledge of customs and rituals
 Good with time and space management
 Multitasking abilities

TRANINING

Your could be from field – scriptwriting, jewellery design, textile design, commercial art, interior design or hospitality or event management – anything that allows your creative juices to flow. To begin with, you can work with an established wedding planner to gain hands on experience.

 Dealing with deadlines and something as huge as a wedding involves dealing with all kinds of people
 It involves long hours, plan changes and dealing with (at times) bizarre client requests
